I got a delightful package from my sweet friend, Angie of Berry Homespun. Such wonderful items, Angie! I put the primmed icicles on my everyday evergreen tree, hanged the flour sack towel in the kitchen, the wood signs in other rooms. I'm looking for a small bear or doll for the chair and the other items will find uses. Thank you so much, Angie, for thinking of me. You are a treasure!
Mike took me out on Wednesday. They had a hot beef sandwich special at Hy-Vee and Dole salads were on sale for 99 cents. So, once he got me out there, he insisted we journey on to Burlington to the Goodwill and Salvation Army stores. What a wonderful decision that turned out to be! First, we stopped at a used furniture that we have had success at in the past. Again, I walked by and ran my hand over this beautiful maple buffet that I sincerely love but have no room for; and the price was reduced $20. I just cannot figure out where I would put it. ***sigh*** I, OK-really Mike-found this WATT bowl in a stack of 3 Pyrex bowls. It had a tag with $15 on the stack. He knows what I have and what I like. I grabbed it up and asked the gal if she'd take $10 for the bowl. She said sure. I walked around with it while I checked out other things. I was actually looking for a wine rack that I could use for me glass rolling pins, but found no such item---yet. She did ask me why I wanted just that bowl. She goes all over the US to auctions to fill their shop and says she knows nothing about antiques!! I've had this kind of conversation with her before when we purchased a MarCrest cookie jar. She says she doesn't have time to investigate every item they purchase so they just add a percentage to their purchase price. As long as they are making money, they are happy. Let me tell you--I am happy with this bowl for $10! Then we went to the Salvation Army store. Now, these guys are notorious for overpricing their donating items. Rarely a bargain to be found...... I found the larger of these two McCoy bowls there for $3! That's right. $3!! I already had the mid-sized one. Now I am going to be on the lookout for a smaller one.
Our last stop was the Goodwill store. I found a couple smaller items that aren't memorable but the real treasure of the day is a double-wedding ring quilt for $8.38. It is hand-stitched, but unfinished. I am in the process of finishing the binding now and I am hand-stitching it. The clerk and I were amazed that anyone could donate such an item. Hand quilted, like from a quilt rack sewing bee!!!! It is so awesome. I will post it when I get it done. It will be priceless!
Bless you, my friends, for stopping by. Have a great weekend!!!!

Wow, Linda you sure made out with those bowls! My friend has several pieces of that same kind and paid a pretty penny for them!!
Can't believe someone would donate a quilt like that either.
The RAK from Angie was very sweet too. Enjoy your weekend, stay warm.

Hi, Linda - you got great bargains on those bowls. I'm looking forward to
seeing the quilt!
Hugs,

Looks like you had a great day. Love all the goodies that Angie sent you. The bowls are so nice, I love dishes and glassware, but am running out of space for anymore. Can't wait to see the quilt piece you found. The nearest Goodwill for me is across the river about 30 minutes away. They never have any good items though. Mostly home interior stuff. They have increased their prices on alot of the items.
I guess it is hard times for them too and in need of funds.
Glad you had a good day.

You really lucked out again Linda..I think you are the master of that art. The thrift stores near us never have much and I think when good stuff comes in the workers buy it and then take it home and sell on line..what other reason could there be for none of them to have anything half as good as your finds. I hope you had a great BD and you never did answer me on FB what day it was :(
Hugs

Hi Linda,
Very nice treasures, from your friend Angie.
With the economy being as it is and the area we live in being so depressed our finds at the Good will or Salvation Army are few and far between.
I love coming over to your place and seeing what you have found, you do such wonderful things with what you find... you are an inspirer to many.
Blessings,
Mel
Can't wait to see that wonderful quilt find...and what a great price...won't get that lucky at any of our GW stores....they over priced everything here. Not near as much fun as they used to be. Blessings to you dear Linda
How awesome to have found a second hand store that doesn't know when they have antiques. You could get steals all the time. I can't wait to see the quilt. Sounds like you had a good time bargain hunting. -Steph-
Don't you love it when you make a decision and it turns it to be a good one?!
Love you!
Great finds, but that quilt is just too good of a find! That is amazing that anyone would donate that! Lucky you being at the right place at the right time!
Cathy
Glad you liked your goodies!
Dang girl! You made out like a bandit on your thrift finds! Great pieces at great deals! And that silly girl... how can you buy and sell antiques and not know a little bit about what they are worth? Crazy!
